Changes To Help You Feel Healthier Every Day

Everyone wants to feel as healthy as possible. That much is clear, but what is often less clear is how you are actually supposed to go about making it a reality. If you find that you are not as healthy as you would like to be, or at any rate that you don’t feel all that healthy, then there are many things you might like to do in order to change that. Often, it is merely a matter of changing one or two habits, or just introducing some healthy new thing into your daily life. But what kind of changes might be best for this purpose, and which are the kind of things that are bound to make the most of a difference? Let’s take a look at a few of the best and most important changes you can hope to make to feel healthier day after day.Article Source

Less Processed Food

The trouble with processed food is that it is so ubiquitous that it is challenging to make sure that you are actually going to do away with it. That’s for the simple reason that you might not always be aware that you are eating it, either because manufacturers don’t always make it clear or because you have just snacked on it without really thinking about it. So changing this is going to require that you are a little more mindful of what you are eating at all times. As long as you can be sure of that, you should find that you are going to be eating a lot healthier, and once you are eating better it means you will feel better in yourself in no time at all. Avoid processed food and go instead for natural, whole foods – that is the way to a healthier life.

Fewer Toxins

You’ll find that there are toxins in many things and that you need to make sure you avoid them as best as you can if you want to be healthier. When you have a lot of toxins in your body, it can lead to your body not functioning properly, and ultimately you will feel a lot worse off for it too. So make sure that you are not putting excess poisons into your body if you can help it. You might find this difficult at first, especially if you are particularly prone to something like smoking or drinking alcohol. But by switching to the best vape juice or trying to avoid alcohol you will find that you are helping your body become much healthier indeed.

More Rigorous Training

If you don’t already train your body every day, you should consider starting to do that. Only by keeping on top of your physical training can you hope to keep yourself feeling healthy, so it’s important that you do this every day. You’ll also need to think about being much more rigorous with yourself than you may have been previously, as that is going to really make a difference to how you feel.

Healthy Eating - Breaking the Fast - The Most Important Meal of the Day

Fasting is a term used to describe a period without consuming food. There are many times in our life where we need to fast for one reason or another. Before surgery or prior to specific blood tests we often need to stop eating for a length of time. Article Source

The most common "fast" we do happens on a daily basis. It occurs when we sleep. During this time, we usually go without food for between 5 to 10 hours.

Breakfast is recognized as the most important meal of the day because it is the time where we "Break the Fast".

It is interesting to note that the name Breakfast is made up of two words "Breaking" and "Fast". Breakfast simply means we are breaking the fast.

Skipping Breakfast is common these days with many people leading busy lifestyles. However, it's not a healthy option. Starting the day on the power of a cup of coffee alone can do more harm to our body than good.

Breakfast kick starts our body's metabolism into gear for the rest of the day. It starts the process needed to ensure the food we eat is digested properly throughout the day.

Breakfast does not need to be large. In some countries, breakfast often consists of eggs, bacon, sausage, hash brown, pancakes and coffee. This in reality is excessive and time consuming. A breakfast like this is likely to do more damage to our health.

A healthy breakfast could consist of nothing more than an apple or if time is more flexible, a bowl of fresh fruit salad.

The first morning meal is the ideal time to take any daily supplements. Powdered supplements can be mixed with freshly made juice or sprinkled over a bowl of cereal.

Cereal should be whole grain and unprocessed. Porridge, muesli or whole wheat flakes are a good option. Processed cereal contains excessive amounts of sugar, which is often more than our recommended daily healthy intake.

There are several varieties of milk available today. Grain milks are becoming increasingly popular. Oat Milk is an excellent choice for Breakfast as is Rice Milk. Soymilk is also very common. Excess consumption of Soy has been noted as causing some health issues mainly relating to hormonal activity. Small amounts should not be a problem. Consult your Doctor for more information or if you are concerned.

Some important points to remember when considering your options for breakfast.

Don't eat excessive fatty foods or processed cereal high in sugars.
Whole grain Cereal is ideal and the healthiest milk option is one of several grain milks available.
Whole grain toast is good. An old wives tale suggests warm or hot toast is easier to digest but I have read no medical evidence to support this. Remember, Breakfast literally means "Breaking the Fast". That is why it is considered the most important meal of the day.

Top 10 Anti Aging Superfoods

Adding Superfoods To Your Diet - Healthy Diet Vital To Good Health And A Sound Mind

Superfoods That Will Boost Your Mood
Most people know that the key to good health is eating a healthy diet. A diet loaded with vegetables and lean meats is healthy; a diet of junk food is not. However, most people have no idea that there are certain foods that can be labeled 'superfoods'. Superfoods are loaded with nutrients vital to good health and a sound mind. They are filled with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, and are great foods to eat to help fight off cancer cells.
These superfoods are not only healthy for you, but they taste fantastic. Although not everyone shares the same taste buds, there is enough variety of superfoods to please even the pickiest of eaters. Try to incorporate at least one of these superfoods into your diet each day. Even better, aim for a few. Remember, it doesn't take an enormous amount of superfood for you to benefit from it: a little often goes a long way.
Below you will find a small list of superfoods, information of what they contain, and how they can help you live a happier, healthier life. Think of this short list of superfoods as your healthy diet tips for the day:
Almonds
Almonds are loaded with iron and magnesium, and are a naturally low saturated fat food. Unsalted almonds are a delicious, nutritious addition to any diet. Almonds are a great snack for people who want to lose weight, or just maintain their weight, as they are a very effective appetite suppresser.
Avocados
One serving of avocado has 20 different minerals and vitamins, including huge amounts of vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K. Avocados are a terrific source of the good fats our bodies need. This easy to metabilize veggie is a super tasty superfood that enhances any meal. Eating avocados also give you a healthy dose of folate, which is needed for proper tissue development.
Blueberries
Delicious little blueberries are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins that not only help your mind and body, but they actually boost your immunity to keep you healthy. Blueberries are no different than other berries in that they are loaded with enough fiber to keep your bodily functions working properly. Try some juicy blueberries in your morning oatmeal, put some in your yogurt snack, or put them in your blender with a few other ingredients and make yourself a wonderful, cool fruit smoothie. Your brain and body will thank you all day long.
Broccoli
Broccoli is a superfood because it is super high in vitamin D. Vitamin D can be found in other foods, and the sun is also a wonderful source of vitamin D. Eating a half cup of broccoli three times a week will not only help your respiratory and digestive systems function properly, it also helps build strong bones and just keeps you overall healthier. Broccoli can be eaten raw, steamed, fried, or baked. If fried or baked, use a bit of extra virgin olive oil for an even greater boost of superfood goodness.
Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that helps your body in the fight against cancer. This super delicious treat is best eaten in small quantities; just a half bar (of a full size candy bar) has 200 calories, 10 grams of sugar, and 20 grams of fat.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Yes, olive oil is nothing but 100% fat. However, this type of fat is actually beneficial to a healthy heart. Although there are 7 grams of fat per teaspoon, there is only 60 calories added to your diet - and those are all heart healthy calories. Use olive oil in your cooking, and when you make home made salad dressing. You may not notice the effects of extra virgin olive oil, but adding this oil to your diet works wonders on your heart health and that is just good news for everyone.
Honey
Although most of honey is water, natural sugars and sucrose, the amount of vitamins and minerals in honey makes it a superfood to use in place of regular sugar, high fructose corn syrup and those nasty tasting (chemical filled) artificial sweeteners. Honey contains pollen, protein, calcium, zinc, vitamin B6 and amino acids. Use honey to sweeten your drinks and your foods. It is a wonderful superfood that helps heal wounds and fights off infections.
Kale
Watch any cooking show on television these days and everyone seems to want to add kale to their menus. Yes, kale is the latest super trendy superfood, but it is there for a reason. Eating kale will help you lower your cholesterol levels naturally. Delicious kale is loaded with nutrients that greatly reduce your risk for developing several types of cancer, including prostate, breast, ovary, colon and bladder cancers.
Lean Meats
Eating lean meats offers your body the protein it needs, without all the fats it doesn't. Lean cuts of beef, chicken and turkey all contain amino acids needed to grow and sustain our muscles. If you just have to have meat every day, substitute lean meats for fattier ones, and watch portion size.
Mixed Nuts
Mixed nuts are another source of healthy proteins. Eating a small handful of mixed nuts for your mid-morning, or mid-afternoon snack not only helps prevent dangerous sugar drops (especially in people with diabetes), but also prevents you from overeating junk food that isn't good for your body.
And Finally...
When you have a craving for something crunchy, trying frying up some broccoli or kale - adding your favorite spices to give it the zing you like - instead of reaching for chips or crackers. Have a sweet tooth? Try a bit of dark chocolate, a hot cup of tea with some honey added, or a bowl of blueberries drizzled with a bit of sweet honey to squelch those cravings.
Incorporating these superfoods into your daily diet will make you feel like a new person. With more energy to get out and about, you will become stronger, more fit and healthier than you have ever been before. When you feel fit you feel fine; when you feel fine you are happy. What better reasons do you need to include these superfoods into your healthy diet? Hopefully these diet tips will help you get started on your path to a better life.

Intermittent Fasting: Transformational Technique | Cynthia Thurlow | TEDxGreenville

The Special Nutritional Needs of Women

When it comes to issues involving nutrition, women clearly have unique needs when compared to the nutritional requirements for men. Women's bodies are obviously very different from men's bodies and therefore have their own uniquely defined nutritional requirements. In fact, many food experts are beginning to argue that the food guidelines currently offered need to be redefined so that they clearly convey the unique nutritional needs for both women and men.
For one thing, the caloric intake of men and women differ significantly, not solely because of gender, but because of average body size and height as well. Women are, more often than not, smaller and more light-weight than a man, which means they require fewer daily calories than men do, at least in most instances. On average, the appropriate daily caloric intake for females falls right around the range of 2000 calories per day, while the range increases by 800 additional calories for men. Of course, the latter figures are clearly affected by exceptions to the rule and are directly affected by one's weight and lifestyle factors as well.
Women have larger calcium needs than men do in most cases too. Women are particularly prone to diseases like osteoporosis later in life, and this issue can be readily addressed with the appropriate amount of calcium consumption on a daily basis. It is true that men can fall victim to a disease like osteoporosis, but the disease is far more prominent in aging women. Researchers have also revealed that the consumption of calcium does not seem to supply men with the same beneficial osteoporosis-reduction advantages that it offers to females. Further, there have been some studies that support the notion that too much calcium consumption by males can lead to later life diseases affecting only men, like that of prostate cancer.
Like calcium, females require significantly higher amounts of iron than males do. The fact that women menstruate and men do not is one of the primary reasons for the additional iron requirements; the regular loss of blood through the monthly cycle can place a drain on a female's iron levels. Later, when a female passes through menopause, her iron requirements are diminished some, but for the majority of a woman's life she will require more iron intake than a man. Women should get at least eighteen milligrams of iron every day, and the daily recommended amounts of iron that men need are a mere eight milligrams in order to maintain optimum health levels.
Women need to consume more lignan compounds than men. Since women are far more prone to developing breast cancer, their dietary needs differ in terms of lignan consumption. Lignans can be consumed safely via flaxseeds, which can be mixed with other foods; the consumption of flaxseeds has been recently proven by researchers to significantly slow down the growth of cancerous tissues. While flaxseed is beneficial to both men and women, women should definitely incorporate a good source of lignan compounds into their regular diet with more consistency.

Longevity & Why I now eat One Meal a Day

10 Health Reasons for Going Vegan

Longevity - Vegans live longer, why? We will see as we examine each disease process on this list. Catherine Hagel - 114 year old VEGETARIAN, despite her advanced age, she took no medications. Loreen Dinwiddie 108 year old Vegan, Missi Devi 105 year old and many more.
Osteoporosis - This is unbelievable, but true. Milk contributes to osteoporosis, in fact, in my opinion causes it. How? the mechanism is quite simple and has been known by the scientific community and the government for more than 100 years. I am a Registered Nurse, and was never taught this. Your doctor may not even know this, its simple but unless you stop and think about it, you miss it. The mechanism by which dairy causes osteoporosis is as follows: You drink your milk, your blood chemistry becomes acidic from the animal protein (this will never happen with plant proteins). Human beings normally have a neutral body and blood pH, once the body becomes acidic, the body must compensate, but how? Simple, the body releases calcium phosphate from the skeletal system which neutralizes the pH, great, except, that the calcium is not reabsorbed, it is excreted in the urine. The more dairy you consume the more bone mass you will loose. Why isn't anyone telling you this? Money or perhaps ignorance. Ask your doctor to do his/her own research on this issue. Remember that doc is just a human being and only knows what they've been taught.
Cancer - In the most comprehensive study of human nutrition ever conducted, "What protein consistently and strongly promoted cancer? Casein, which makes up 87% of cow's milk protein, promoted all stages of the cancer process. What type of protein did not promote cancer, even at high levels of intake? The safe proteins were from plants, including wheat and soy. As this picture came into view, it began to challenge and then to shatter some of my most cherished assumptions." - Dr. T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study. Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, with an estimated 400,000 new cases diagnosed annually. Its incidence and mortality have been associated with milk or dairy product consumption in international and interregional correlational studies. As a result, case - control and cohort studies have further investigated this association and are described in this review. Of twelve case - control studies, six found significant associations, as did five of eleven cohort studies, with relative risk of prostate cancer among those with the most frequent dairy product consumption rangng between 1.3 and 2.5, with evidence of a dose - response relationship. Mechanisms that may explain this association include the deleterious effect of high - calcium foods on vitamin D balance, the tendency of frequent dairy intake to increase serum insulin - like growth factor I (IGF - I) concentrations, and the effect of dairy products on testosterone concentration or activity.pcrm.org It is also interesting to note than cancer can only survive in an acidic environment.
Obesity - Dairy is loaded with growth hormones. Dairy is designed to grow a small calf into a giant animal in 6 months time. It is not designed for human consumption. No other animal on the planet consumes mammary secreations after weening except humans. Why? well because no animal, including humans are meant to consume it after weening. "The most powerful growth hormone in a cow's body is identical in structure (70 amino acids in the same sequence) to the most powerful growth hormone in the human body." Robert Cohen notmilk.com
Cardiovascular Disease - Unhealthy fats and bad cholesterol, there is no way to get these things in your body except by consuming animal products. There is no source of good cholesterol other than your own body. You produce all the good cholesterol you will ever need. No true omnivore or carnivore ever clogs an artery, ever!
Brain Damage - Many cases thought to be Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia can be linked to the consumption of animal products. Remember mad cow disease? It is a fatal neurodegenerative disease in cattle that causes a spongy degeneration in the brain and spinal cord. BSE has a long incubation period, about 30 months to 8 years (wiki Wiki article ). The Prion when consumed lodges itself in the neurological system, just like rabies, where it can lay dormant for many years. It is 100% fatal. It can manifest symptoms 5 - 10 years after that dollar menu burger. Why would anyone risk feeding that to their children? Simple, lack of knowledge. Symptoms of mad cow frequently mimic dementia. Mad cow can only be confirmed with an autopsy, just like rabies. In my medical opinion, every person who dies with dementia in the US should be tested for the human form of the disease, Creutzfeldt - Jakob disease.
Autoimmune disorders - Animal protein is now being linked to many autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis. According to Dr. Colin Campbell, top USDA nutrition scientist in his collection of decades of nutritional research called "The China Study," undigested or partially - digested animal - based proteins (especially dairy) can leak out from an individual's slightly permeable intestinal wall (which many people do have) and into the blood stream, fueling the formation and growth of malignancies; and causing arthritis and autoimmune flareups. Another term or phrase for this "leakage" of protein is "foreign protein in the bloodstream." Plant - based proteins do not have this adverse effect (malignancies, arthritis, and autoimmune responses) and are never seen as foreign protein in the bloodstream. In addition to malignancies and arthritis, foreign protein in the blood is also responsible for many cases of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, diabetes, arteritis, pernicious anemia, MS, myasthenia gravis, Graves', Hashimoto disease, Croans Disease, kidney - related autoimmune disorders, and others.
Diabetes - Diabetes is an autoimmune type disease but deserves its own section. Contributing factors to diabetes in adults, are of course obesity, diet, lifestyle, genetics. What about childhood diabetes? One word, DAIRY. Why dairy? When a child consumes dairy products, the body reacts to the animal protein as a foreign invader, we are not designed to consume animal protein at all, we are herbivorous, the immune system kicks into high gear, so far no problem, but what happens when that immune system has dealt with all those invaders? It looks for more, and where does it find similar proteins? In the pancreas. The immune system then attacks the child's pancreas causing irreparable damage. Why aren't mothers taught about these risks? Money, big AG and politics.
Hyperlipidemia - In other words, high cholesterol. As stated earlier, the only way for you to get high cholesterol is to consume it in the form of animal products. All those pills the doctor is prescribing for you, at a cost of hundreds of dollars a month, can be tossed in the trash after a short period of time on a vegan diet. Why isn't the doctor telling you this? Pharmaceuticals are Big Money. Nobody makes money if you heal yourself through your diet.
Hypertension - HTN can have genetic or ethnic components, in other words, you may have little to no control over HTN; however, this is most often not the case. Most HTN is related to lifestyle ie diet, smoking, obesity. Lifestyle unlike ethnicity and genetics, can be changed. Heart Disease, cardiovascular disease, coronary artery diseases can be avoided. No human being should ever have to undergo coronary bi - pass, why, because no human should be consuming animal fat and cholesterol. We are not designed to process these foods. Our intestinal tracts are herbivorous, very long, designed for digesting plant based foods.
Strokes - Linked directly to CVD, CAD, HTN, obesity and hyperlipidemia, all of which can be avoided, and for those already suffering from these diseases, the good news is that many times, they can be reversed.
In conclusion, let me say nutrition is not very big in medical school, we teach doctors and nurses how to treat the symptoms of diseases more so than the diseases themselves. We push pharmaceuticals. I went vegan when I saw the conditions 98% of farmed animals are kept in, from there, I became exposed to many truths which are in conflict with my medical training. I have begun to question the ethics of what I do for a living. I as most people in medicine, began this career to help people, the sad truth is that many times we do more harm than good. The medications cause more side effects which then require more meds to combat those. It is a viscous cycle which can be alleviated with a proper and correct diet.
I have been a vegan since April of this 2011 when I saw the conditions most farmed animals are kept in. I was so appalled, that I went vegan that day. I just couldn't use my money to fund such cruelty. Read Genesis 1:29-31 and see what God intended for us to eat

How to Find the Best Meal Delivery Service Near You

Getting hungry? Between work, school, family, and friends, it’s difficult to find the time to cook up a meal. That busy schedule can leave you scrounging for protein bars that leave you feeling unsatisfied.

Instead of chewing on a bland protein bar, order a delicious dish!
It’s forecasted that delivery sales could rise an annual average of more than 20%, reaching $365 billion worldwide by 2030.
More people are relying on delivery services to get a bite to eat. With this guide, you can discover how to find the best meal delivery service to satisfy all your cravings.

What Are You Looking For?

First things first: what are your priorities?
Some people struggle to find a meal delivery service that offers meals they actually want to eat. Before you start to search, know what you’re looking for.
The best meal delivery service is one that matches your appetite and dietary needs.
Are you on a paleo diet, vegan, or going low-carb? There are also meals designed to help you lose weight. If health is your main concern, search for meals that meet the nutritional requirements you need.
As you search, knowing what you’re looking for can help narrow down the options.
In order to get the best results out of your meal delivery, choose a service that meets your lifestyle. That way, the service benefits your overall diet (instead of helping you cheat).

Are the Ingredients High-Quality?

Many people prefer to buy locally-sourced and organic ingredients. Thankfully, many meal delivery companies are now catering to these requests.
If high-quality ingredients are important to you, keep an eye out for a service that prioritizes their ingredients. Make sure to do your research to find out where the ingredients for each meal comes from.
Some meal delivery companies only offer one or two organic ingredients in each meal.
Others make finding high-quality, organic ingredients a priority.
Are the ingredients fresh? Frozen ingredients can change the entire quality of your meal.
Knowing where the ingredients are sourced from can give you the peace of mind. That way, you know how the ingredients were handled and controlling what you’re putting into your body.

Do They Deliver to Your Area?

As you’re narrowing down your options to find the best meal delivery service, this one’s important.
Do they deliver to your location?
Unfortunately, not every company delivers to the entire country. In some cases, they might exclude Alaska and Hawaii to only deliver to the continental U.S.
How long it takes to transport your food is important.
The company might not deliver outside of the continental U.S. to ensure freshness.
Before you get attached to a specific meal delivery service, doublecheck. Make sure they deliver in your area. Does the price for delivery differ based on where you’re located?
If you live outside the continental U.S., focus on finding a delivery service in your area. That way, you can make sure you’re getting fresh ingredients from the best local meal delivery service.

How Much Food Do You Need?

Next, take into account how much food you plan to order each week.
Some food delivery services will only provide enough food for couples. If you have a big family to feed, on the other hand, you might need to look for a different option.
From there, decide how many meals you want each week.
Some meal delivery services don’t offer daily meals. In many cases, they might offer three meals a week instead. When you’re looking for the best meal delivery service that meets your needs, keep this in mind.
Then, consider which meals you need. While some companies only prepare dinners, others offer breakfast and lunch as well.
Determining these needs ahead of time can help you find the right service for you and your family.

Do They Offer Food You Want?

You obviously want to make sure you’re ordering food you want to eat.
As you explore different companies, take a look at their options. What type of food do they deliver? Is there a wide variety to choose from?
Not every food delivery service is the same. Some follow a theme while others get adventurous. During your search, keep your preferences (and your family’s) in mind.
If you have picky eaters, you might want to find foods you’re already familiar with.
If you’re looking to expand your palette, on the other hand, look for an option that goes outside of your comfort zone.
Don’t forget to consider your dietary needs during your search.
Then, take a look at the meals themselves. Do they get your mouth watering or do they leave you feeling bored? Make sure it’s a meal you’re excited to eat.
Otherwise, you’re wasting money.
The best part about a meal delivery service is you get to choose! The options are there at your fingertips, so you’re in control.

How Much Does It Cost?

People spend between $290 and $323 per month for groceries on average.
When you’re choosing a meal delivery service, make sure it fits your budget. The subscription prices range depending on the types of meals and how often you order.
Don’t forget to consider how much you spend on groceries for a meal. You might think the subscription is overpriced until you compare it with what you spend to make an entire meal yourself.
Plus, these subscription-based meal delivery services work with local farmers and suppliers. In many cases, you’re getting high-quality, fresh ingredients. That plays a part in what you’re paying for as well.
While a meal delivery service might seem more expensive, it’s important to evaluate everything that goes into the cost.

10 High Protein Vegan Friendly Foods For Gaining Muscle

Are you vegan or vegetarian and looking to pack on some muscle? Have you been told that it's next to impossible on that type of diet? If so, then keep reading as you are about to discover 10 high protein vegan foods that you can easily incorporate into your diet that will help in your quest to gain muscle.
1) Ezekiel cereal - This Almond flavoured cereal packs a lot of punch for a breakfast meal, coming in at 8 grams of protein per ½ cup of cereal. And we all know how easy it is to have more than a ½ cup. So rest assured that you are getting at least 8 grams of protein from the cereal alone.
2) Hemp Bliss - This drink might take some getting used to, but it goes well with the Ezekiel cereal and tops up your protein consumption with 5 grams/cup on its own. With the two combined you are looking at 13 grams of protein for one meal.
3) Nature's Path organic unsweetened oatmeal has a surprising 7 grams of protein per packet. Now, if you're looking to pack on muscle, then you are most likely consuming more than one of these packets at a time.
4) Nut Butters - Cashew butter, almond butter, macadamia butter, you name it - these nut butters are all excellent sources of protein. Mix in a tablespoon of one of these butters into your oatmeal and you're looking at a high protein snack right there. The cashew butter alone weighs in at 5 grams of protein per 30 gram serving.
5) Multigrain Bread - This goes nicely with the nut butters with each slice offering 3 grams of protein. And if you're looking to gain muscle, then 2 slices just won't be enough for you, so you could potentially be looking at 12 grams or protein just from the bread. Factor in the 10 grams from the nut butter and you've got yourself a healthy dose of protein.
6) Quinoa and Quinoa Flakes - Quinoa has a nutty flavour to it and is also very easy and super quick to make, making it an ideal side dish for many meals. Add in the fact that the flakes have a whopping 15 grams of protein per 100 gram serving and you're not only getting a delicious meal, but one with a lot of protein as well.
7) Pasta - if you're going to eat pasta, then look for Spelt or Kamut noodles in particular. Spelt clocks in around 11 grams per 85 gram serving. It's always difficult to tell just how much pasta is on your plate, so you can bet that you're eating more than that 85 gram serving.
8) Beans - beans, black beans and kidney beans especially, are probably one of the biggest protein sources of everything I've mentioned thus far. Men's Health recently declared black beans to be the cheapest protein source per 10 grams at 13 cents. So go ahead and make a bean salad, or stew up a pot of chilli full of kidney beans.
9) Nuts - Almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts, and pistachios in their raw form, are all excellent high protein snacks.
10) Wild Rice - at 4 grams of protein per ½ cup of dry rice, wild rice isn't only just a very healthy side dish, but one full of protein as well.
So there you have 10 delicious and vegan friendly foods that are sure to help pack on the muscle.

I Went Vegan for a Month. Here's What Happened.

About the Vegan Diet and Its Health Benefits

Few Americans understand what a vegan diet is, or what it can mean for their health. Instead of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, the typical American diet is heavy in animal meats, fats, and dairy. This way of eating has been getting worse with each generation. As this increases, so do many people's waistlines. Eating a vegan diet instead is a healthy alternative. Whether you eat a vegan diet for a short while, or continue on for a lifetime, veganism can be a rewarding lifestyle change.
Lose weight, enjoy more energy, and feel great by making the change to veganism.
What is veganism?
Veganism is a type of vegetarianism that is slightly more limited. While a vegetarian will not eat meat, some still enjoy milk, eggs, honey, and other animal products. Vegans, on the other hand, avoid all animal products possible. Many even avoid wearing leather and wool because these are animal products. Vegans have to constantly be on the look out for animal-based food additives. One common example is red food dye, which is made from a type of beetles.
Is Veganism Difficult To Follow At first glance, it seems very difficult to follow a vegan diet. Animal products are everywhere, from the gelatin to chocolate. Many foods you would not expect to have animal products, do. In some parts of the world, choosing to eat a vegan diet could be extremely difficult to do. However, for most people in the U.S. there is an abundance of food options if you know where to look. Health food stores and specialty shops are more likely to carry vegan food that typical grocery chains. However some larger chains, such as WalMart, are beginning to carry vegetarian and vegan options.
Small, local grocery stores often have a good selection of quick food items that are vegan friendly. If not, they may be more friendly towards making these options available to meet local needs. When going out to eat, some cuisines are better suited towards offering vegan options. Spanish, South and Central American, and some Asian foods have great vegan options. And thankfully, more vegan friendly restaurants are opening up across the country each day.
If need be, you can always ask the chef to hold the animal products for your dish. Vegan snacks are easy to find. Fresh fruits and vegetables, along with nuts and seeds, are healthy snacks that contain absolutely no animal products.
Try a handful of cashews, a fresh fruit salad, or a square of dark chocolate for a simple vegan snack.
Is It Delicious?
There are vegan dishes all around the world, dishes that most people do not even realize are vegan. Hummus, fried okra, salads, dark chocolate. Lots of things that people enjoy on a daily basis have no animal products at all.
Where the typical American diet focuses mainly on meat and animal fats, looking outside oour culture we can find a wide assortment of delicious foods to enjoy. As the demand grows, many food companies are now offering vegan alternatives that are just as tasty as the foods they replace. From vegan versions of bacon, sausage, burgers, and ground beef, there are great options for people interested in a vegan diet but not yet ready to say goodbye to meat.
Vegans do not need to give up their dessert options either. Cakes, cookies, ice creams, and more can all be made without milk and eggs, and they are just as delicious as the typical versions. Try a slice of vegan apple pie, topped with vegan ice cream made from coconut milk. Many people find that as they adjust to a vegan diet, their sense of taste no longer requires heavily flavored foods. Things can taste sweet with less sugar that before, making even desserts a little better.
As their systems clean out the junk built up, they can become more sensitive to what they eat.
Is Veganism Safe?
A balanced vegan diet can be incredible for your health. Of course, the secret is keeping it balanced. A diet of nothing but vegan cookies, while vegan, would not be healthy at all. Sticking to a balanced diet and remembering to eat foods in moderation will help you to be healthier and lose weight. Even people who are already at a healthy weight range will feel better when their body flushes the animal products out.
